CASE STUDY
Avoiding Further EPM Investment Until the Foundation Was Ready
RETAIL | PRIVATE LABEL PRODUCTS | ERP + EPM READINESS
Background
A large retail and private label product manufacturer was replacing its legacy EPM solution during a multi-year ERP implementation. To move forward confidently, it needed a coordinated view of how ERP, subledgers, the enterprise data warehouse, BI, OKR, EPM, and reporting requirements should work together.
FURTHER EPM INVESTMENT PAUSED
______
Leadership prioritized data and system readiness before additional EPM investment
Challenge & Approach
After repeated EPM rebuilds, leadership needed an objective assessment of whether to continue or change course. CFO Solutions determined that the issue extended beyond the application to ERP and subledger changes, data warehouse design, reporting requirements, dimensionality, and data flows.
We conducted an EPM health check and enterprise reporting assessment, then developed a reporting inventory, risk assessment, action plan, future-state dimensionality, data flow map, and enterprise information roadmap. A critical recommendation was to realign the data warehouse with the ERP design before restarting EPM development.
Value Delivered
The company avoided further investment in a solution that was not yet positioned to succeed. Leadership paused EPM development and prioritized the process, ERP, subledger, data warehouse, reporting, and dimensionality work required for readiness. With a clearer understanding of its true business requirements and system dependencies, the company can now evaluate EPM options and move forward on a more informed, risk-aware path.
